Haulage business in Great Britain expands to include 80% of
fresh fish transport and 20% of continental export. Unfortunately,
the business ceases with base activities remaining in Aberdeen
only.
Blue Water Spain moves into bigger facilities in Barcelona. In
Aalborg, the office is destroyed by fire.
Blue Water Dubai sees an explosive increase in the transit
transport via Iran to Central Asia - mainly Azerbaijan. Blue Water
Aalborg succeeds in getting a five-year contract with the Thule Air
Base.
On 1 January, Blue Water takes over Donau Express, Vojens. Blue
Water Stevedoring does well in its first year, and Blue Water
Greenland is appointed agent for Lloyd's of London.
Blue Water opens an office in Moscow. A second office is opened,
however briefly, in Novorossiysk. 1 March Blue Water Barcelona sees
the light of day and later, an office opens in Madrid. French
activities are now concentrated in Brest, assisted by Blue Water
Lorient.
Building up and development of a new activity - combined traffic -
swap bodies by road/rail between Scandinavia and the countries
south of Denmark.
An office is established in Ipswich, England in order to intensify
the contact to our customers in the South of England, and Blue
Water Aarhus moves to new facilities. In Aberdeen, Blue Water's new
office handles Strandfaraskip Landsins' new ferry service from the
Faroe Islands.
On 1 May, Blue Water takes over Linde Shipping & Spedition,
Hirtshals, and on 1 September, a new cold store/terminal is opened
in Padborg to accommodate increased quantities of fresh fish.
As the year ends, more offices are opened, this time in Fredericia
and London. In Greenland, a merger takes place between Blue Water
and Wilson Freight Systems.
Global trade stagnation and currency fluctuations negatively
influence the transport trade in 1993.
Shipping activities, however, develop favourably in Denmark,
Holland, France, England and Ireland. New initiatives are monthly
departures to the Middle East, appointment as agent for Lauritzen
Reefers in The United Arab Emirates, Blue Water trucks in Dubai,
reefer service carrying foodstuffs to the Mediterranean/Egypt, Blue
Water Stevedoring, potato shipments from France and groupage
service to the Middle East, West Africa, the Far East and South
America.
Despite the hard times in the fishing industry worldwide, Blue
Water is busy with the handling and transport of fish products from
Greenland, the Faroes, Norway and Denmark. The airfreight activity
is progressing. All things considered a year of big changes and
challenges which ends well with a fine financial result.
The co-operation with Dansk Eksportforening ( The Danish Export
Association) results in a lot of exbition business, and an extended
agency network in the Far East ensures a bigger share in imports
for BWS.
M/S "Norröna" is fully booked on several departures from Hanstholm
to Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Shetland. Knud Sørensen Shipping
becomes an integral part of BWS Esbjerg.
Iceland ship owners buy "Polar Nanoq" and Polar Line. Blue Water
continues as agent for the line. Blue Water opens on Nykøbing Mors
on 1 February.
Naming ceremony of the world's biggest reefer vessel - "Jørgen
Lauritzen" - takes place in Esbjerg, and feta cheese is now being
transported by truck from Russia due to the Gulf War.
Blue Water opens a Deep Sea office in Liverpool, and another
office in Dubai, U.A.E.
In cooperation with the Esbjerg Business Academy, Blue Water
starts its own vocational education of trainees. According to the
F.D.E. (the Association of Danish Export Hauliers), Blue Water
Transport is now the tenth biggest haulage contractor in Denmark.
Kurt Skov is awarded the Trade and Industrial Prize "The Golden
Anvil" of the regional daily paper "Jydske Vestkysten".
