Insurance

Liability Insurance

Every means of transport has its own national and international set of laws and regulations.

The CMR Convention governs international road transports.

The Maritime Law applies to transport by sea and the Warsaw and Montreal Conventions govern air transport.

Blue Water ensures that our subcontractors and partners have liability insurance which covers as per these laws and regulations. Additionally, we also have liability insurance to cover any mistakes and negligence, we may be responsible for.

Our responsibility as freight forwarding agent is covered by various, national rules and customs. Liability concerning all contracts made in Scandinavia is described in NSAB2000, General conditions of the Nordic association of Freight Forwarders.

Cargo (Marine) Insurance

To ensure optimal cover in case of loss or damage, we recommend taking out separate cargo insurance. Such insurance can be taken out on limited conditions - Institute Cargo Clause "C" or most commonly on extended conditions - all risk/clause "A".

We offer to take out insurance on behalf of our clients. Our recommended rates cover shipping to/from Denmark and to/from UK for all common, new, packaged goods.

For further information, please contact your local Blue Water office or contact person.

What to do in case of damage?

Loss and short delivery

  1. Recount and note reservations on the consignment note.
  2. Immediately hold your freight forwarder responsible in writing.
  3. Make the claim to your insurance.
  4. Send documentation such as signed consignment notes, invoice and booking/agreement.

Damage - visible

  1. Secure evidence: Inspect external condition of the items.
  2. If in doubt, note your reservations on the consignment note and have the driver sign. Take photos, avoid moving the goods, and limit the damage.
  3. Make the claim: Immediately hold your freight forwarder responsible in writing. Make the claim to your insurance which, depending on the extent of the damage, may arrange an inspection.
  4. Send documentation such as signed consignment notes, invoice and booking/agreement.

Damage - not visible

  1. Inspect the content soonest possible, as you only have a few days to register your claim.
  2. If the short claim deadlines are exceeded (from 1 to 14 days), you must prove that the damage is a transport damage and may - worst case scenario - be excluded from compensation.
  3. Take photos, avoid moving the goods, and limit the damage.
  4. Make the claim as under "Damage - Visible" item 2.
