MARPOL charge on road transports to Norway and Sweden

In 2010, significant changes to the MARPOL resolution will affect shipping in the ECA (Emission Control Area) of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea.

As from 1 January, fuel oil used during port calls is allowed a maximum sulphur content of 0.1% only. From this date, shipping lines are charging a fee as compensation for this extra cost which in turn results in the introduction of a MARPOL charge of 0.25% of the total freight cost with a minimum of DKK5.00 per shipment as from 1 February 2010.

As from 1. July 2010 the maximum suphur content of fuel oil used at sea will be reduced from1,5% to 1% and the shipping lines will at the same date increase their MARPOL fee and as a result of this Blue Water will increase the MARPOL charge from 0,25% to 0,55% from the 1. July.
