Smyril Line changes Danish port of call and will be calling at Hirtshals as from 2 October 2010.
The freight company Smyril Blue Water has at its disposal the freight capacity on pf Smyril Line's super ferry M/F "Norröna" which is the fastest ro/pax ferry on the North Atlantic with its 21 knot sailing speed. M/F "Norröna" sails all year between Seydisfjordur/Iceland, Torshavn/the Faroes and as from 2 October Hirtshals in Denmark.
With own offices in Reykjavik and Seydisfjordur on Iceland, Torshavn on the Faroes and Esbjerg, Hanstholm and Hirtshals in Denmark - besides Blue Water's 46 offices in 24 countries - Smyril Blue Water offers transport worldwide of all types of cargo to and from the Faroes and Iceland. Smyril Blue Water occupies 150 reefer and curtain trailers in its North Atlantic network.
Danish port of call for the last two years has been Esbjerg for 9 months a year and Hanstholm during the 3 summer months. With the change to Hirtshals, the Danish port of call will remain unchanged throughout the year.
The decision to change port of call from Esbjerg to Hirthals is due to various advantages to Smyril Line. In terms of weather conditions, navigational conditions are better in Hirtshals than Hanstholm, and Hirtshals offers better facilities for passengers than Esbjerg. In addition, a shorter distance to the Faroes and a motorway all the way to the port make Hirtshals an ideal port of call for passengers and cargo transport.
Shipping Line P/F Smyril Line handles passenger traffic and freight company Smyril Blue Water handles cargo transport.
