Large crane transport from the Far East to the Middle East

In the autumn of 2011, Blue Water Shipping, Dubai was awarded a contract to ship two cranes from the Far East to Jebel Ali for our good customer Lamprell Energy Limited.

The cranes are to be installed on two Wind Carrier vessels currently being built at Lamprell's yard in Jebel Ali for final delivery to Fred Olsen. The Wind Carriers will be deployed in the North Sea for the installation of off-shore wind turbines.

The contract covers the transport of 8 large crane components (maximum length is 92 meters) from the manufacturer's yard in the Far East to Lamprell's yard in Jebel Ali. Due to draught and entry restrictions at the manufacturer's facility, the units were loaded on self propelled barges for transport to the commercial port of Shanghai in China, where they were transhipped onto heavy lift vessels for onward transport to Jebel Ali.

In Jebel Ali, Blue Water Shipping has also been contracted to receive the cargo on SPMT trailers for delivery to a temporary storage facility before the units will be assembled on the wind carrier vessels.

The assignment is being carried out in close corporation between Lamprell, SBM Gusto and Blue Water Shipping's offices in Shanghai, Dubai as well as our engineering department in Esbjerg, Denmark.

The first shipments have been delivered to Lamprell's full satisfaction, and we look forward to completing the contract during the next couple of months.
