In May 2009, the Project Oil & Energy Dept from Blue Water Shipping Singapore took delivery of another huge unit of pedestal crane (dimensions (L)28m x (W)5.8m x (H)8.40m) weighing 78 tons.
The crane was delivered from Plimsoll MacGregor Singapore for
onwards shipping to Jurong Shipyard for installation onto a
rig.
Road survey was done and due to its road limitation, the pedestal
crane was not permitted on the road. Transportation using tug and
barge was the only option.
For this cargo operation, Blue Water Singapore mobilised a 18 axle
multi trailer to transport the crane from Plimsoll MacGregor yard
to a private wharf vicinity. A 500 tons mobile crane was also
mobilised to lift the pedestal crane onto the charter barge. A
Marine surveyor ensured proper seafastening was done before sailing
to Jurong Shipyard.
Logistics planning including safety went smoothly and shipyard
delivery was on-time for the installation onto the rig.
